Cipro (Ciprofloxacin) is an antibiotic. It belongs to the class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolone. The drug works preventing the reproduction and repair of DNA thereby stopping the multiplication of bacteria

How to Use
For the safe use of Cipro (Ciprofloxacin), your doctor needs to know if any of these conditions apply to you:

  • Joint problems
  • History of allergic reactions to antibiotics
  • Kidney disease
  • Seizures or epilepsy

A dose adjustment may be needed if any of the above conditions apply to you. Your doctor may also advice you not to use the medication all together.

Cipro (Ciprofloxacin) should be used as prescribed. Do not take the medication with dairy products as they will make it less effective. Dairy products can be taken with regular meals but not with the drug alone. It is also recommended to take several glasses of water throughout the day while using this medication. Your doctor should also be informed of all the medications you are using. Some medications need to be taken 2 hours after taking Cipro or 6 hours before taking the drug.

Each dose has to be taken with at least 8 ounces of water (full glass of water). You must also take more fluids throughout the day during treatment.

The oral suspension needs to be shaken for 15 seconds. Use the correct measuring cup or spoon. It is recommended to use calibrated measuring cup or medicine. Swallow the oral suspension without chewing.

The extended-release tablets should not be chewed, crushed or broken. They should be swallowed whole.

You can take Cipro (Ciprofloxacin) with or without food. However, never take the medicine with dairy products.
