Bimatoprost is a medication prescribed for the treatment of open-angle glaucoma. It is also used to treat other conditions that are caused by an increase in pressure inside the eye. It works by increasing the rate at which fluids are rained from the eye thereby reducing the pressure.
How to Use
Always talk to your doctor before you start using Bimatoprost. Your doctor should be informed if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Allergic reactions
- Swelling or infection of the eye
- Are using other medications
You should use Bimatoprost exactly as directed by your doctor. Don’t take a dose that is smaller or bigger than prescribed. The recommended time to use the medicine is in the evening. You have to take out the contact lenses prior to using this medication as the preservatives contained in it can discolor your contact lenses. Wait until 15 minutes before wearing your contact lenses.
To prevent chances of an infection, make sure you wash your hands thoroughly before handling the dropper. You need to tilt your head back then pull the lower eyelid down in a manner that a pocket is formed. Look away then squeeze the dropper. Shut your eyes for 3 minutes with your head still tilted. Do not blink or squint during this time. you should also use your finger to press the corner of your eye to keep the medicine from draining out through tear ducts.
If you have been advised to use more drops at a single go, you need to wait 5 minutes between drops. If you use drops of other medication, wait until 10 minutes after or before you use Bimatoprost.
